You can add and change skills (in addition to any skills that your organization may already have added) on your My Skills page (top icon on left-hand menu) in the Skills Explorer section.
To add a skill, click on 'Add skill' under Your Skills. The skills you can choose are organized in a hierarchical ‘skills graph'. The are two ways to search for skills:
Browse. You see the top level of the skills graph first, and you can open lower levels by clicking on arrows next to a skill name. Clicking the arrow again closes the levels below. The number after a skill name tells you how many more specific 'child' skills are nested under it.
Search. You can use the search box at the top to search for skills. This allows you to see only parts of the graph that contain skills matching the search term.
Tagging skills and levels. When you want to ‘tag' a skill as one of your own, just click on the 'Tag' button next to the skill. This will then allow you to set your current skill level:
beginner - limited knowledge; not at level for regular use at work
intermediate - solid basic knowledge; appropriate for non-specialist work
advanced - strong knowledge; core job qualification
expert - better than most advanced practitioners; able to teach the skill.
Your selected skill will appear under 'Your skills' in the Skills Explorer.
To change the level of a skill, just click on the skill under 'Your skills' in the Skills Explorer or on the LearnerShape graph. Then set the new level.
Personal skills. You can also add a personal skill that is not in the skills graph by clicking 'Create new skill here ...' at the level of the skills graph where you want to create the new skill (if you want to add a skill below a skill with no 'children', just click on the existing skill to see 'Create new skill here ...').
When you create a personal skill, you will be asked to give it a name. Then you can either just 'Add' the skill to the skills library, or 'Add & tag' to set your level and identify the skill as one of your own.
Your organization can review the suggested personal skill and add it to the skills graph for your organization, if useful for others.
You can remove a personal skill from Your Skills just like any other skill. You can then also entirely delete it from your skills graph (if it has not yet been added to the skills graph for your organization) by clicking 'Tag' for the skill in the 'Add skills' dialogue and then 'Remove custom skill from library'.
Organization skills. For companies and other organizations, LearnerShape's AI-driven platform offers complete skills flexibility. Each organization can define and use its own skills graph on a custom instance of the platform. Existing records of employee skills can be uploaded (using formats including JSON, XML and Excel) in place of or in combination with the self-assessment approach described above. Please contact LearnerShape for more information.
LearnerShape public skills graph. For the beta test version of our platform, LearnerShape has developed a public skills graph focused on information technology (including machine learning, data science and software engineering) and a selection of other skills. Our platform has the ability to make learning recommendations based upon any skill, and we will expand the public list of skills over time.
